Military valves have been used in rafts for decades. It is a sturdy design that attaches to an inner boot with six screws. A military valve functions as a one-way valve when only unscrewed slightly. This little-known trick can be used to prevent air from escaping when a pump is removed. To put the valve in one-way mode, only loosen it about half a turn from the fully closed position. Air pressure from inside the watercraft will push the plunger closed, keeping air from flowing out.
